Dungeon Raider - A Brief History

In 2018, we began a new project, a role-playing game based off other popular games such as Undertale. We decided that it would react to your decisions but like games such as Skyrim and Minecraft, we decided that the player would choose where they want to go. This is where many of our inspirations came from.

So work began on the game’s engine. The team decided that it would be easier to code and edit in python so we used a module known as pygame. The game engine revolves around an x,y basis with a third digit designating the tile’s id. The engine sifts through the .map file creating a map inside the pygame window.

It was pretty slow and deficient to have to write down an entire .map file by hand. It could take up to 2 hours to just get one done. We spent the next 5 hours creating a map creator using our designations and scripts. Even though it perhaps took a while to create, it was saving us time in the long run.
